Modern dance
The techniques of modern dance differ from classical dance in that they work actively with the floor. They work more variably with the trunk; make use of a whole scale of spinal movements - rotations, curves, waves, isolations of segments and the like, all these resulting in limitless variety of form. Modern dance is based on various principles of movement coordination. In our lessons we work with the principle of release leading dancers from mechanical reproduction of movements to emotional and conscious dancing. Out of the techniques - systems suitable for the body of adult beginners we use the systems of Ch. Limon and Jooss-Leeder. These creators were dealing with dramatisation of dance, in other words, dance theatre - dance as a means of scenic expression. These methods are very sophisticated, anatomically non-defective and dancelike. What does a beginner learn in the class? In these lessons one gains control over his or her body, technical skill and basic dance skills; one improves his poise, regains his flexibility and strength. Musicality and spatial ability develop in all combinations. The dancer is gradually led from unconscious movement to more preciseness and anatomically exact performance of dance movements. Thus s/he gains more and more liberty, which manifests itself in expansive performance of dynamic dance variations (spatial or jump-orientated) contained in the final part of lessons. Through these preparatory systems a whole range of movement expressions and moods are unveiled to the dancer, which s/he will then be able to exploit in his/her collaboration with the choreographer, or in his own production, which is part of the training system. Dancers are given the opportunity to perform in each semester, and thus gain experience directly on stage.
