CARMEN

Music:
The performance is based on the intersection of classical music inspired by el Classico Espanol and Spanish folk art from the area of Andalusian flamenco. The music of G. Bizet is rearranged into the nature of flamenco and enriched with typical flamenco elements (harmony, rhythm, instruments). During the performance, apart from music by Bizet, also motives from songs by contemporary popular flamenco bands e.g. KETAMA and La SUSI can be heard. To all this traditional flamenco music and compositions by Cyril Kubis are added. All performers are given space for improvisation, which intensifies the interconnections within the music material and the uniqueness of each performance. Most of these musicians have experience in this type of projects, mainly from playing in the band Los REMEDIOS who premiered the project called Sangre flamenca a year ago.

Band Remedios is a grouping of these artists:
7 performers (flamenco guitar, bass guitar, cajon, violoncello, flute, violin, opera and flamenco vocals)
Zuzana FUJACOVÁ /flute/
Juraj PAŠKA /violoncelo/
Dano GODÁNY /cajon/
Peter GRANEC /flamenco guitar/
Dano GODÁNY /cajon/
Mária KOLEDOVÁ /vocals/
Pavol KUBÍK /bass guitar/
Cyril KUBIŠ/violin, dancing/

Dance:
The scenic design of Carmen is a synthesis of flamenco and contemporary dance. The authors has drawn on the languages of these genres abundantly - the rhythmicity which characterises flamenco dance (there are virtuoso flamenco acts and traditional flamenco spirit) and the plasticity of contemporary dance (the performance employs partner dance and physical contact). By the synthesis of elements, the authors managed to create a dance drama that is accompanied by suggestive emotional music, and brings in a typical expressiveness. In this new conception, the story of Carmen gains new features that certainly enrich the mosaic of the interpretive variations presented so far. The dance performance also engages the musicians into the course of events. This is not a separate music or dance concert; it is rather a play in which all performers have an equal share of the interpretation.
